We take pride on being North America’s leader of full-service solutions in the freight, passenger and commuter rail industries in Canada, the United States and offshore. Cad Railway has other facilities in Calgary, Lethbridge (under Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives. Cad Railway’s delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx’s rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.
Summary of the role:
The Financial Analyst will possess strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial principles, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The Financial Analyst will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and providing insights that contribute to strategic decision-making within the organization.
Core Accountabilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):
- Collaborate with various departments to gather financial data and input for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
- Analyze and interpret financial results, variances, and trends to provide actionable insights.
- Assist in the development of financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports for management, highlighting key performance indicators and financial metrics.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
- Generate ad-hoc reports as requested by senior management.
- Participate in Month-end Accounting process
Performance Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Identify areas for improvement and efficiency in financial processes.
- Make recommendations for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
Forecasting and Budgeting:
- Work closely with department heads to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates to management.
- Analyze budget variances and provide explanations for any deviations.
Financial Modeling:
- Develop and maintain financial models to support decision-making processes.
- Evaluate the financial impact of various business initiatives and scenarios.
Risk Assessment:
- Assess and analyze potential risks affecting financial performance.
- Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure financial stability.
Market and Industry Analysis:
- Stay informed about industry trends, economic indicators, and market changes.
- Provide insights into the potential impact of external factors on the organization's financial performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of proven experience as a Financial Analyst or in a similar role.
- Professional certifications such as CPA or similar
- Strong proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial software.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
Nice to have:
