ServiceMaster Restore of Vancouver (svmvancouver.ca) has a requirement for a Controller to join their head office in Burnaby. They are looking for someone to join their team and contribute to the dynamic and collaborative environment.
The Controller will lead the accounting team and take on a variety of responsibilities, in support of the company’s financial strategy and team's day-to-day operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting, is eager to learn, and thrives in a busy environment.
Opportunity Summary:
The Controller will manage the consolidation accounting of the company and all its subsidiaries. This includes overseeing cash, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, debt, and payroll.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (on-site)
Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounting department functions while leading, coaching, and mentoring department staff. Some recruiting and onboarding will be required.
- Ensure that all financial accounting duties and public and internal reporting (month-end, quarter-end, and year-end) are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage the regulatory requirements with respect to quarterly and year-end financial statements and other filings.
- Manage compliance with tax filings and requirements for both corporate and sales taxes.
- Oversee accounting operations which include setting up accounting and reporting systems, implementing internal controls and systems procedures, payables/receivables, payroll, processes, and policies.
- Manage system selection and implementation including planning, accounting, payroll, expense, and reporting systems, together with implementation of internal controls processes, and policies.
- Support on external audits, liaising with audit teams on requests.
- Undertake ad hoc tasks such as data reporting, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
- Must have a comprehensive technical and functional understanding and be willing and able to process all accounting processes (i.e. AR, AP, bank reconciliations, cash management, general ledger, financial prep, and review).
- Process payroll.
- Reconcile GST and PST for multiple companies.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree and CPA designation.
- 8 years of progressive experience, including the last 3+ years leading a team.
- Big 4 experience, and experience in real estate development sector preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and multi-entity/company consolidations.
- Sound knowledge of appropriate controls and ability to review and improve processes and controls.
- Strong leadership skills, communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- A thinker and problem solver.

- Strong excel skills and systems experience.
- Proficiency in using QuickBooks.
- Executed or significantly participated in A/P and Payroll processes.
