The Director of Accounting is the most senior level financial executive on our client’s team, and reports directly to the CEO, the Owner, and the Board of Directors. You will provide strategic leadership and day to day management to various departments including Accounting (AR, AP and Payroll) and Purchasing and Receiving. You will implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets, prepare executive payroll, and optimize cash liquidity and investments. You will also play a pivotal role in preparing comprehensive financial forecasts, budgets, and reports for multiple companies, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and year-end reporting requirements.
Your prior experience in diverse business environments will be fully utilized as you shape and execute the financial strategy for our client, and contribute to their continued success and growth.
Your day as the Director of Accounting could include:
- Providing hands-on leadership and support to the Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Purchasing/Receiving departments and leading all aspects of the accounting functions including financial reporting, management reporting, budgeting, and planning.
- Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and preparing and analyzing financial forecasts and cashflow projections.
- Preparing and processing in-house executive payroll for the Managers, Directors, and Senior Executives.
- Responsibility for the company’s property and liability insurance, preparing forecasts and projections for renewal, and reviewing annually for adequate coverage.
- Managing cash liquidity, investments, and cash requirements for daily operations.
- Coordinating and preparing annual operating and capital budgets, assisting department Directors with their budgets, and monitoring budget targets.

Our ideal Director of Accounting brings:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) is required, with membership in good standing.
- Bachelor of Commerce, Business or other related discipline is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of senior accounting leadership experience required with experience in diverse businesses/industries/sectors preferred.
- Experience managing and building effective teams with demonstrated leadership skills that motivate, inspire confidence, and encourage success.
- Experience as a member of the executive team with responsibility for a diverse portfolio.
- Experience in strategic planning, policy development and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and in Accounting and payroll software (Sage, PayDirt, etc.)
