BAUER Foundations Canada Inc. (Bauer), an established and growing multi-provincial company, is searching for a Cost Accountant who has demonstrated experience with monitoring, controlling, and reporting cost commitments and expenditures through all phases of project lifecycle.
The Cost Accountant is responsible for leading Bauer’s monitoring of performance of the job versus current cost forecasts by analyzing actual data, reviewing projects costs over/under runs, and producing appropriate reporting for project management. This position works closely with project managers and will regularly liaise with accounting, procurement, payroll and third parties to maintain accurate, updated information on project cost budgets. This position is best suited for those that are highly motivated and enjoy “being involved.”
Responsibilities of this Position:
- Working with Project Managers, develop and maintain project cost budgets in accordance with basis of estimate including statements of work scope, assumptions, man-hour estimates, etc.
- Ensure a thorough regular periodic reassessment of project scope, cost, and schedule for completeness, reflecting the best judgement of the project team and management.
- Engage with the discipline leads, project leads, management team and others to maintain awareness of project activities and their impact on the project budget, schedule, and cost forecast.
- Evaluate status of the project cost, provide most accurate total project forecast ensuring inclusion of all cost categories.
- Prepare and provide cost performance reports in accordance with project reporting requirements.
- Provide cost control advice to the project team as and when required.
- Review vendor invoices for validity and coding.
- Update project information for actual invoices.
- Assist with project change orders / variations.
- Assist in other duties as assigned.
- Qualification and Requirements:
- Must be a demonstratable team player devoted to providing high quality services to all stakeholders, internal and external.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- 5 years of experience in a cost controlling position.
- Preferably 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in financial reporting.
Must be a process focused self-starter, a problem-solver who can critically evaluate data and business transactions.
- Proficient knowledge of cost software and related principles, tools and techniques including budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
- Proficient knowledge of project execution procedures for cost management.
- Excellent knowledge of MSOffice programs with advanced Excel skills is a must.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while working towards tight deadlines.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
