In this role, the Controller will report directly to the President and be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions of Greenway's group of companies. The candidate will be required to produce financial reports and provide advice where needed on financial decisions. The goal of this position is to enhance business financial strength and provide insight into the financial situation of the business.
This position requires the ability to work independently and within tight deadlines. The ideal candidate should have experience in accounting and possess knowledge of the trucking industry.
Responsibilities and Duties
Working with appropriate department personnel to develop and implement cash flow projection
Responsible for managing payment of vendors
Review supporting documentation and signing cheques for vendors
Answer coding questions for A/P, A/R and also Cash Receipts for aligning actual with budget
Responsible for overseeing amounts due are being pursued and received
Identifying budget variances
Developing adequate financial controls for ensuring the integrity of the fiscal results
Maintaining general ledger, adding new accounts as needed including capital projects
Review periodically contribution report income statement
Assist with identifying ways for improving operational efficiencies
Review internal financial statements, Balance Sheet Income Statement
Coordinate the periodic end close process
Analyze abnormal balance or variances in budget
Perform account reconciliations
Review debt-fixed asset schedules
Coordinate year-end audit
Review documentation sent to external audit
Responsible for ensuring debt lease agreements are paid timely.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's degree preferred)
- CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in using accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis techniques
