Overview:
Provide strategic financial/accounting leadership to support the business in achieving financial targets. The incumbent will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the corporate accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementing best practices in financial management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting, excellent leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive process improvements.
Key responsibilities:
§ Manage all accounting functions for Hydel while providing financial and accounting guidance to accounting staff
§ Responsible for the financial accounting, reporting and tax compliance
§ Provide support to the Operations/Manufacturing Group with Cost Accounting analysis and to the Corporate Controller with consolidated reporting.
§ Report monthly financial results and provide detailed variance analysis in comparison to budget and prior year
§ Coordinate internal control documentation; investigate and implement internal control improvements as necessary
§ Sign off all Cash receipts, bank deposits, all Credit notes issued, bi-weekly payroll inputs and J.E’s,
§ Monitor cash flow to ensure we maintain a positive position, calculate monthly depreciation
§ Prepare & enter monthly J.E.’s for month end processing
§ Ensure month end closing is completed on the last day of the month
§ Review and sign all A/P cheques prior to them being sent out
§ Prepare AFE’s for approval
§ Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts; maintain fixed asset subsidiary ledger
§ Prepare annual Budget for approval
§ Responsible for year end audit requirements
§ Oversee payroll functions, ensuring tax compliance (GST, PST, EHT, Income Tax)
§ Prepare month end HST for payments, month end WSIB for payment
§ Authorize Stock Adjustment Requests
§ Attend Production meetings and provide inputs weekly production and labour requirements
§ Oversee development and implementation of processes and procedures to improve our manufacturing and delivery commitments
§ Oversee development of processes and procedures to improve our supply chain requirements
§ Analyze inventory to determine appropriate levels and obsolescence provision
§ Develop a detailed knowledge of the ERP system and implement updates / new software where appropriate
§ Prepare annual Performance Appraisal’s for appropriate employees
§ Research new accounting pronouncements and provide summaries to CFO and Corporate Controller regarding applicability and implementation guidance
Competencies required:
§ Professional Designation (CPA/CGA/CMA) with a minimum of 5 years post-designation experience is required
§ Superior understanding of GAAP, emerging accounting issues and reporting requirements is required
§ Excellent communication and supervisory skills are a must
Experience in a manufacturing environment with cost accounting responsibilities is strongly preferred
