Position Summary
The Controller must be a self-starter, who’s primary focus is ensuring efficient and accurate reporting of financial results through effective processes and controls. The position is part of the management team and reports directly to the managing director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full cycle of activities of the accounting department, including accounts receivable, payable, and payroll
- Manage the accounting team which includes an AP/AR clerk, payroll clerk & senior accountant
- Manage cashflow requirements on a daily basis
- Establish and maintain standardization of financial procedures and policies while ensuring robust financial and operational controls exist
- Provide weekly cash and sales reporting to the management team
- Ensure that the financial results for all projects are accurately reflected in the financial statements
- Assist in preparing the monthly financial statements along with required supporting schedules
- Provide accurate and timely information, as required, for the auditors
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal reporting requirements
- Utilize and enhance the ERP system to facilitate processes and maintain records while enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of reported results
- Contribute to the strategic/tactical planning process including development of annual operating plans and budgets, long-term plans, cost management strategies, and forecasts in alignment with corporate strategy
- Identify and address process inefficiencies, including leadership to implement software solutions
- Other activities as assigned
Key Experience / Skill Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or finance
- CPA designation would be an asset
- 5-10 years progressive experience; 2+ years prior relevant experience in a construction company is preferred
- Track record of driving successful continuous improvement initiatives that bring together people, processes, and technology
- Collaborative and supportive with a passion for work, a positive attitude, and a true team player
- Clear communicator with the ability to speak and write persuasively as well as listen and get clarification
- Detail-oriented and willing to roll up sleeves to accomplish stretch objectives
- Ability to operate in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment with shifting priorities
- Experience with managing HR functions would be an advantage
- Must possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of Sage Timberline would be an asset
