The Payroll & Accounting Specialist position is responsible for processing of the weekly payroll and all related accounting processes including reporting and remittances in accordance with applicable government legislation. A minimum of 5 years Payroll experience is required and a minimum of 3 years Accounting experience is preferred.
- Process the weekly payroll in a timely manner
- Maintain and update all employee rates, salaries, banking information, vacation/absence details, and position and status changes in the payroll system
- Enter and manage employee benefits deductions and taxable benefit amounts
- Calculate/process manual payments as required ensuring Employment Standards compliance
- Process wage and salary increases, vacation payout and bonus payments in payroll system, verifying accuracy of data and generating payments
- Ensure Company compliance with ESA and/or Company guidelines
- Respond to departmental and employee queries in a timely manner
- Manage all administrative payroll functions including generating ROEs
- Process termination/severance payments with appropriate deductions in accordance with Employment Standard laws for employment
- Prepare month-end accruals, account reconciliations, payroll journal entries and government remittances at month end
- Generate year-end income documents such as T4, T4A, T2200 and complete reconciliations
- Provide information and reports for internal and external purposes such as earnings, pension contributions, benefit premiums
- Perform administrative duties such as maintaining payroll files
- Perform other Accounting department duties as required
- Complete all required reporting for Management
