Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing the weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for the Matheson Constructors Group of Companies. The Payroll Specialist is accountable for accuracy, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, and compliance with Payroll legislation. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for providing information and answering employee questions about payroll-related matters.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Prepare, verify, and process weekly and bi-weekly payrolls using Viewpoint payroll system
- Collaborate with the human resources department to maintain employee information in the payroll system
- Process all payroll data, including timesheets, health benefits, allowances and deductions
- Ensures timesheets are setup with proper cost codes, aligned with project budget
- Prepare new Employee onboarding setup in payroll system
- Maintain and update taxable benefits
- Manage the electronic employee and payroll files
- Process Record of Employments (ROE) and submittal in keeping with governing timelines and Company policies and procedures
- Respond to Employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Understand and navigate through the payroll modules in Viewpoint
Educational & Professional Requirements:
- A post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Payroll Administration, or Accounting and/or related equivalent experience
- Completed Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
- Experience working with unionized payroll
- Minimum 5 years of work experience administering payroll in a fast-paced, unionized environment
- Knowledge of Payroll Compliance Legislation and the Ontario Employment Standards Act
- Knowledge of Introductory Accounting and Accounting Principles including the recording, analysis, and reporting of financial information
- Experience in the Construction industry an asset
- Experience with Payroll and Time Sheets software is an asset·
