POSITION:Director of Accounting
Position Description
The Director of Accounting function includes all financial responsibilities including payroll and related activities and information technology, facilities and legal which would include Board and Shareholder services. The actual time demands associated with each of these areas varies dramatically throughout the year, with the finance related activities being the major focus. Select administrative activities are completed with the President's direct involvement.
Reporting Relationship
The Director of Accounting reports to the President and will be a hands-on and participative contributor with the other members of the Management Team in the strategic decision making and operations of Dormer. The expected result is that the combined competences of the Management Team (and total organization) will achieve the planned annual growth and profitability objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Activities
1. Financial Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement and oversee overall accounting strategy, financial policies and accounting procedures.
- Oversee accounting daily operations
- Take responsibility for accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll and utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, trust account statement reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity etc
- Monitor and analyse accounting data
- Set up and monitor accounting KPIs
- Regularly produce financial reports or statements-
- Adhere to proper accounting methods, policies and principle
- Maintain and supervise the accurate recording of all financial transactions.
- Generate regular financial reports and statements to reflect the operation's fiscal health.
Analyze and interpret financial data, making recommendations based on findings and trends.
- Deliver financial reports and management requests in an agreed time basis.
2. Annual Budget Process:
- Initiate, coordinate, and lead the annual budgeting process.
- Collaborate with department heads and management to finalize budgets and forecast future financial needs.
3. Liaison with Auditors:
- Act as the contact, together with the President, for the external auditors.
- Facilitate the auditing process by providing necessary financial information and documentation.
4. Management & Board Reporting:
- Regularly report on the organization's financial status and any corporate issues to the President who will advise the Board and the management team.
- Provide insights and analyses based upon financial data that facilitate decision-making.
5. Management Team Participation:
- Play a pivotal role as a member of the Management Team, contributing to the company’s strategy and direction.
Administrative Activities
1. Human Resources Related Functions:
- Ensure all payroll related activities are initiated through a payroll service.
2. Information Technology Oversight:
- Recommend to Management actions so the company's IT infrastructure and cybersecurity is up-to-date and meets all operational needs.
- Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to facilitate technology upgrades and integrations as needed.
3. Facilities Management:
- As required, and with the Director of Operations, recommend facility-related proposals, while undertaking activities related to regular facility upkeep and maintenance.
- Ensure that the physical work environment is safe, functional, and conducive to productivity.
4. Corporate Financial Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that the company adheres to all legal and regulatory standards and requirements related to its financial operations.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and standards, and where appropriate recommend the implementation for changes to maintain Company compliance.
5. Board of Directors & Shareholder Services:
- At the President's direction, act as liaison between the Board of Directors and the Company, facilitating communication and ensuring all Board requests and inquiries are addressed.
- Provide necessary services and communications to shareholders to ensure transparency and engagement.
6. Fulfill in a timely manner all special assignments or requests by the President or members of the Management Team.
7. Special projects as may be assigned.
Education & Experience: Must have a Recognized degree in Accounting/Finance with 5 years experience in meeting the responsibilities.
Location & Time: This is a full-time position requiring on site performance in Etobicoke.
