Position Description:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the executive team at Kenora Chiefs Advisory. Working within an innovative, dynamic First Nations led group, this position will provide important leadership and oversight to ensure strong fiscal management and planning. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will ensure adherence to standards of ethical conduct, and act in the best interest of KCA, to support and advance its mission, vision, and values. Core aspects of the CFO include financial strategy and planning, reporting and analysis, forecasting, risk management, capital management, financial compliance, and a strong collaborative approach.

Reports to: Executive Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Work alongside the Executive Director, and additional key members of the executive team to develop and execute KCA’s financial strategy to achieve long-term financial goals and objectives
Ø Develop and implement financial strategies, goals, and budgets aligned with long-term objectives and organizational planning
Ø Provide financial leadership and guidance to the Executive Director, Senior Executives, and Board of Directors
Ø Responsible for maintaining and writing of finance policies and procedures
Ø Advance a financial strategy that supports stability and growth in operations, and facilitates the optimization of funding initiatives and financial sustainability
Ø Engages in systems transformation by demonstrating system and critical thinking, encouraging, and supporting innovation, orienting strategically to the future, and championing and orchestrating change
Ø Provide strategic and operational leadership regarding financial opportunities and challenges, planning, projected growth, government funding changes, investment, business planning and risk management initiatives
Ø Develop Business Plans where necessary by conducting financial analysis, market research, and feasibility studies to support strategic decision-making, and advance initiatives by the Board
Ø Coordinate within the finance department to prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements
Ø Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and identify areas for improvement
Ø Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and regulations
Ø Work with the Director of Finance to support the annual budgeting process ensuring alignment with organization-based funding, strategic objectives, and operations of programs and services
Ø Manage cash flow and liquidity requirements to meet operational needs and optimize working capital
Ø Evaluate and negotiate financing options, including loans, credit lines, and capital raising, to support the company's growth initiatives
Ø Identify financial risks and develop mitigating strategies
Ø Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws and accounting standards
Ø Strong working relationships with key provincial bodies including Ministry of Health, Ontario Health, Indigenous Services Canada to support the strategic, financial, and capital aspects of KCA
Ø Mentor staff, contribute to a healthy workplace, communicate effectively, and build and maintain teams
Ø Promote collaboration, cooperation, effective communication, and teamwork across departments
Ø Achieve results by setting direction, strategically aligning decisions with vision, values, and evidence, and taking action to implement decisions
Ø Provide mentorship and support to the financial team, enabling growth and effective succession planning when required
Ø Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Ø Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention
Ø Support accreditation processes as identified through Accreditation Canada including assessment, action plan development, education, and pre-site visit preparation within committee structures of the organization
Ø Representing the organization at local, regional, and governmental planning tables, committees, networks as required
Ø Participation and respect for cultural and ceremonial practices is important as an employee of KCA
Ø Attending board meetings as required
Ø Being open and negotiable to additional duties as required
Qualifications
Ø University degree in a finance-related field such as Accounting, Business Administration, or Commerce
Ø If from an accounting background must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
Ø Experience working with First Nation communities, and respect for First Nation governance is essential
Ø In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, applicable laws and best practices
Ø Understanding of both federal and provincial healthcare systems, funding models, and policies
Ø Relationship-based leadership, consensus and equitable decision making
Ø Effective communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Ø Ability to articulate and represent the organizational mission, vision, and values
Ø Ability to take initiative and be self-directed, adaptable, and innovative
Ø Effective organizational, analytical, managerial, communication, strategic and leadership skills.
Ø Proficiency in MS Office and accounting software
Position Requirements:
Ø Current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
Ø Valid driver’s license and vehicle
Ø Willing to travel when required
Ø Understanding of the Ojibway language is an asset
