Position Purpose:
Overall duty of this position is to support the timely and accurate administration and processing of the weekly, full-cycle payroll process. The Payroll Team Lead ensures legislative reporting and union requirements are met in compliance with company policies, corporate governance, collective agreements and legislative requirements.
Due to the restrictive timelines involved with this position, overtime may occasionally be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily operations of the payroll team.

Assists with payroll projects as they relate to payroll software and operational procedures.

Responsible for the processing of the weekly payroll for approximate 400-600 salaried and hourly employees with both Union and Non-Union classifications.
- Ensures the maintenance of payroll documentation.

Processes personnel transactions such as new hire, termination, leave of absence, benefits, union deductions, garnishments, salary changes, etc.

Reconciles and researches payroll discrepancies; processes adjustments as required.

Performs account reconciliation and remittance for government agencies and third-party stakeholders.

Processes annual T4 statements, T2200 forms and other government reporting as required.

Supports the Payroll Administrator in the collection of weekly timesheets and processing data entry in HRIS.

Serves as a first point of contact for payroll related inquiries from employees and managers.

Ensures compliance with company policies, corporate governance procedures, collective agreements and legislative government requirements.

Maintains strict confidentiality of employee information and compensation practices.

Maintains payroll records and files ensuring employee payroll information is current and accurate.

Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus
- Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.

Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
Knowledge and Skills:

Solid understanding of payroll procedures including demonstrated experience in legislation interpretation; knowledgeable of federal and provincial payroll regulations and related tax law and employment standards application.

Strong understanding of HRIS software.

Education and Work Experience:
- National Payroll Institute (PCP) designation required.
- 5+ years’ experience in Payroll administration.
- Multi-provincial and union payroll experience required.

ADP WFN experienced preferred.

Equivalent experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.
Working Conditions:
- The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

The work is primarily sedentary.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.

Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.

Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification.
